Donald Martin “Don” Slaught, nicknamed “Sluggo,” is a former professional baseball catcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 16 seasons, from 1982 to 1997.
Slaught played for seven MLB teams: Kansas City Royals (1982–1984), Texas Rangers (1985–1987), New York Yankees (1988–1989), Pittsburgh Pirates (1990–1995), California Angels (1996), Chicago White Sox (1996) and San Diego Padres (1997).
He was an All-American at UCLA. Slaught was the Kansas City Royals’ catcher during “The Pine Tar Game.” He had some of his most successful seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he often platooned at catcher and hit between .295 and .345 in the early 1990s.
After his playing career, he founded RightView Pro, a video analysis system for baseball and softball. He is also a partner in OnBaseU, an educational organization focused on how the human body functions in relation to baseball and softball. He also served as the hitting coach for the Detroit Tigers in 2006.
