Bo Jackson, born Vincent Edward Jackson, is a name synonymous with athletic greatness and a testament to what a gifted athlete can achieve. He is widely considered one of the greatest athletes of all time, largely due to his unprecedented success as a professional in both football and baseball.
Jackson’s career is defined by his ability to excel at the highest level in two major American sports, a feat no other athlete has replicated to the same degree.
Jackson’s baseball career spanned eight seasons, where he was an imposing power-hitting outfielder. Jackson’s combination of power and speed was a rare commodity. He hit 141 career home runs and stole 82 bases. In his best season, 1989, he hit 32 home runs and had 105 RBIs. He was named an American League All-Star in 1989.
Jackson’s cultural impact reached its peak in the late 1980s and early 1990s with Nike’s iconic “Bo Knows” advertising campaign. The commercials featured Jackson trying his hand at various other sports, with the tagline becoming a catchphrase that celebrated his athletic versatility.
Tragically, Jackson’s football career was cut short in 1991 when he suffered a severe hip injury during a playoff game. The injury was a career-ender in football and severely impacted his baseball career. While he attempted a comeback in baseball, he was never able to regain his previous form and retired from the sport in 1994.

Which Bo Jackson rookie card is most valuable?
Baseball card sets from 1986 and 1987 are the ones which may contain the Bo Jackson rookie. There are many subsets, errors and others which may be significant in value. When talking standard (base set) baseball cards from 1986, the Topps Traded 1986 Bo Jackson rookie card seem to sell at a premium when compared to other card manufacturers of this time period. Even though Donruss and Fleer were certainly making a name for themselves, Topps was still the gold standard in 1986. Jackson did not make the standard base set this year and his rookie was included in the traded set, which was only available separately. Another reason for this was the difficulty in obtaining a mint gem graded Topps card from this set. The black top of the design caused even the slightest blemish to show and centering was a real issue for 86 Topps. Even more valuable than the standard Topps Traded Bo Jackson is the Tiffany version, also a separate set that was produced in limited quantity.
