1990 Leaf Baseball

1990 Leaf baseball rookie card prices
Manufacturer: Leaf
Set Size: 528 Cards
Card Size: 2-1/2” x 3-1/2”

Set Notes: 1990 Leaf baseball cards were released in two series. Series 1 runs from numbers 1 to 264. Series 2 is numbers 265 to 528. Following Upper Decks lead from 1989, Leaf issued this set with a thick card stock and glossy finish. Focus is on a large color photo of the player, small player name at bottom with team logo. The backs featured a color headshot of the player, bio and stats on a silver background. 1990 Leaf is said to have been release in much less quantity than competing products like Score or Upper Deck from that year. This is not saying much, as it was the height of the junk wax era. Nevertheless, this has helped keep key rookies more valuable in 1990 Leaf.

Overview of 1990 Leaf Baseball Cards

The 1990 Leaf baseball card set marked a significant return for the Leaf brand and is widely considered a premium product for its era. Released in two series, the 528-card set stood out in a time of mass-produced, lower-quality cards.

Premium Quality: Leaf’s cards were known for their glossy finish, sharp, full-color photographs on both the front and back, and a sturdy card stock. This distinguished them from many of their contemporaries.

Simple, Clean Design: The card fronts feature a clean design with a bright, crisp photo bordered in white. The player’s name and position are at the bottom, with the team logo and the iconic Leaf logo.

Two-Series Release: The set was split into two series. Series 1 included cards #1-264 and was released approximately six weeks before Series 2, which contained cards #265-528.

No Insert Sets: Unlike many products that would follow, the 1990 Leaf set did not include chase or insert cards, making the focus solely on the base set. However, a 12-card “Special Preview Card” set was released to build hype for the product.

Yogi Berra Puzzle: Packs of 1990 Leaf cards included puzzle pieces that, when assembled, created a tribute to Yogi Berra.

Notable Rookie Cards: The 1990 Leaf set is famous for its strong rookie class, making it a highly desirable set for collectors.

Due to the high quality of the cards and the significant rookie class, the 1990 Leaf set is firmly entrenched as a classic of the “junk wax” era and is still sought after by collectors today.
