Kenny Lofton is a former American Major League Baseball (MLB) center fielder who played for 11 different teams over his 17-year career, though he is most known for his time with the Cleveland Indians. Drafted by the Houston Astros, he was traded to the Indians in 1991 and went on to become a six-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove Award winner with the team.
Lofton made his MLB debut in 1991 with the Houston Astros before being traded to Cleveland. He spent the majority of his career with the Indians, playing a total of 9 1/2 seasons in two different stints. He was an instrumental part of the Indians teams that won six division titles and reached the World Series in 1995. Notably, Lofton is also a five-time American League stolen base leader (1992-1996).
Lofton was also known for his collegiate career at the University of Arizona, where he played on a basketball scholarship before joining the baseball team as a junior.

Did You Know? Throughout the mid-1990s, Lofton reigned as the undisputed king of the base paths. He possessed an incredible internal clock and an explosive first-step acceleration, allowing him to get an immediate jump on even the toughest left-handed pickoff moves.
He led the American League in stolen bases for five consecutive seasons (1992–1996), peaking in 1994 with 60 bags in just 112 games, and a career-high 75 steals in 1996. His elite baseline table-setting—including a brilliant .412 on-base percentage in 1994 and a .310 average in 1995—acted as the vital fuel for the thunderous bats of Jim Thome, Albert Belle, and Manny Ramirez, guiding Cleveland to the 1995 and 1997 World Series.
