Set Notes: Directly at the heart of the “Junk Wax” era we find 1991 Fleer baseball. Even though some of the top names from the time have rookie cards in 1991 Fleer, it still holds relatively low values because of over production. The front of the cards are a bright yellow color which distinguishes them from other sets of this time period. The players name is on top and team name and position at bottom all in black text. A color photo of the player is center. The backs contain player information and a player head photo in a circle.

Overview of 1991 Fleer Baseball Cards
The 1991 Fleer baseball card set is a significant, albeit controversial, release from the “Junk Wax Era” of baseball card collecting. Produced in massive quantities, the set is widely available and typically has a very low value for most of its cards. However, a few factors make it a notable piece of collecting history.
Design and Production: The 1991 Fleer set is known for its distinctive design. The cards feature a bright, almost garish yellow border that many collectors found unattractive. The photos are also notably smaller than those found on cards from competitors like Upper Deck. Fleer’s production was so high that it used two different printers, leading to subtle variations in the cropping of some photos, a minor detail that appeals to some collectors.
Key Cards and Inserts: While the majority of the base set cards are not valuable, a few cards and subsets hold some interest for collectors.
Pro-Visions Inserts: These are a popular insert set within the 1991 Fleer product. They feature artistic, painted portraits of star players, a stark contrast to the standard card design.
Value: Due to the massive overproduction of baseball cards in the early 1990s, the 1991 Fleer set, along with many other sets from the era, is not considered valuable in raw, ungraded condition. Complete sets can often be purchased for little cost. However, some specific cards, particularly those with a rare variation or those of star players in high-grade (PSA 10) condition, can fetch a higher price.
The 1991 Fleer set is a classic example of the “Junk Wax Era,” a period defined by overproduction that led to a sharp decline in the value of most cards. Despite this, it remains a nostalgic set for many collectors who grew up with it, and the handful of valuable cards and inserts provide a chase for those who still open packs or search for rarities.
