Aaron Sele was a model of consistency during the “Junk Wax” and early modern eras, carving out a 15-year career as a reliable right-handed starter. Known for a sharp curveball and a high-IQ approach on the mound, he was a fixture for several winning rotations.
Sele burst onto the scene in ’93, finishing 3rd in the AL Rookie of the Year voting. He was a key part of the Red Sox rotation alongside Roger Clemens in the mid-90s. Sele’s prime was during his years with Texas & Seattle. He won 18 games for the Rangers in 1998 and 17 games for the record-setting 116-win 2001 Mariners. During this four-year stretch, he was a perennial “win machine.”
Sele was famous for his “12-to-6” curveball, which remained one of the most respected breaking balls in the American League for over a decade.
