Tim Wakefield was a Major League Baseball pitcher known for his long career, primarily with the Boston Red Sox. He began his professional baseball career as a first baseman but later converted to a pitcher, primarily throwing a knuckleball.
Wakefield’s MLB career spanned from 1992 to 2011. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1992–1993) before spending the vast majority of his career with the Boston Red Sox (1995–2011).
He was a rare and effective knuckleball pitcher, a style that allowed him to have a long career. Wakefield was a key member of the Red Sox teams that won the World Series in 2004 and 2007.
Tim Wakefield’s rookie card, #U-117, is part of the 1992 Fleer Update set. This set is considered to be one of the scarcest “update” sets ever produced, making the rookie cards within it more difficult to find. The card features Wakefield in his Pittsburgh Pirates uniform, the team with which he made his MLB debut in 1992.
