Scott Rolen, nicknamed “The Rolling One,” was a professional baseball third baseman who played for 17 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, and Cincinnati Reds. He was known for his exceptional defense at third base and his combination of power and patience at the plate.
Rolen was named the National League Rookie of the Year in 1997 with the Phillies, batting .283 with 21 homers and 92 RBIs. He won eight Gold Glove Awards, was a seven-time All-Star, making four straight All-Star teams with the Cardinals from 2003-2006. He won the Silver Slugger Award in 2002 as the best offensive third baseman in the National League. Rolen was a key member of the 2006 World Series-winning St. Louis Cardinals team. He hit a crucial game-tying home run in Game 1 of the series.
Rolen was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2023, receiving 76.3% of the vote in his sixth year on the ballot.
