Miguel Tejada played for 16 seasons (1997–2013) with six teams, most notably the Oakland Athletics and the Baltimore Orioles.
He earned the nickname “La Guagua” (which means “the bus” in some Spanish dialects) for his ability to consistently drive in runs when runners were on base. His breakout season came in 2002 with the Oakland Athletics, where he hit .308 with 34 home runs and 131 RBIs, winning the American League Most Valuable Player award.
Tejada was famous for his consecutive games played streak, which reached 1,152 games before it ended in 2007, making it the fifth-longest streak in MLB history at the time. He was a 6-time MLB All-Star (2002, 2004–2006, 2008, 2009) and a 2-time Silver Slugger Award winner (2004, 2005). He was also named the 2005 All-Star Game MVP.
Tejada is a member of the Athletics Hall of Fame.
