Troy Glaus established himself as one of the premier power-hitting third basemen of the early 2000s, utilizing a massive frame and a disciplined eye to anchor the middle of several American League lineups.
Glaus debuted with the Anaheim Angels and quickly became the face of the franchise’s power surge. In 2000, he led the American League with 47 home runs, setting a then-record for third basemen.
His career peaked during the 2002 World Series. Glaus delivered a legendary postseason performance, batting .385 with three home runs against the San Francisco Giants. He earned the World Series MVP award after his go-ahead double in the eighth inning of Game 6 sparked a historic comeback, ultimately leading the Angels to their first championship.
After leaving Anaheim, Glaus continued to provide elite power for several contenders:
- Arizona Diamondbacks (2005): He smashed 37 home runs in his lone season in the desert.
- Toronto Blue Jays (2006–2007): He earned his fourth All-Star selection in 2006 after hitting 38 home runs and driving in 104 runs.
- St. Louis Cardinals (2008–2009): He transitioned to the National League, providing veteran stability and hitting 27 home runs in 2008.
- Atlanta Braves (2010): He concluded his career as a first baseman, helping the Braves reach the postseason.
Glaus retired in 2010 with a resume defined by strength and reliability in the hot corner:
