C.C. Sabathia, whose full name is Carsten Charles Sabathia, is a celebrated former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher known for his impressive career as a durable and effective left-handed starter.
He played for the Cleveland Indians (2001–2008), Milwaukee Brewers (2008), and New York Yankees (2009–2019) during his 19 seasons in the MLB.
Early in his career, he was a hard-throwing power pitcher, with his fastball velocity often in the mid-to-high 90s MPH. As injuries and age began to take a toll in the mid-2010s, he successfully evolved into a crafty left-hander, relying more on his command, a cutter, and a slider, using his sinker and changeup to keep hitters off balance.
Sabathia won the World Series with the New York Yankees in 2009. He also won the American League Cy Young Award in 2007 with the Cleveland Indians. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame as a first-ballot inductee in the Class of 2025.
Teams Played For: Cleveland Indians (2001–2008), Milwaukee Brewers (2008), New York Yankees (2009–2019).
Career Totals: 561 games, 251 wins, 3,093 strikeouts, 3.74 ERA, and 3,577.1 innings pitched.
Accolades: National Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee (2025), 2007 AL Cy Young Award Winner, 2009 World Series Champion, 2009 ALCS MVP, 6-time All-Star, 2-time MLB Wins Leader (2009, 2010).
