Josh Hamilton is an American former professional baseball outfielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2007 to 2015. He played for the Cincinnati Reds (2007), Texas Rangers (2008–2012, 2015), and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2013–2014).
Hamilton was a five-time MLB All-Star (2008–2012). He was named the American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2010, the same year he led the Rangers to their first World Series appearance. He won the ALCS MVP in 2010. Hamilton also won three Silver Slugger Awards (2008, 2010, 2012).
Hamilton struggled with alcohol and drug addiction, which led to him being suspended from baseball from 2003 to 2005. He has been open about his battle with addiction and multiple relapses. His journey to recovery, which he credits partly to his faith, allowed him to resume his baseball career.
He returned to Major League Baseball with the Cincinnati Reds in 2007 and then had his most prominent years with the Texas Rangers. Hamilton was inducted into the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame in 2019.
