Hanley Ramírez electrified Major League Baseball with a rare combination of elite speed and explosive right-handed power. Over a 15-year career, he captured a batting title, earned three All-Star selections, and successfully transitioned through multiple infield and outfield positions.
Originally a top prospect in the Boston Red Sox system, Ramírez moved to the Florida Marlins in a blockbuster 2005 trade. He immediately dominated the National League, winning the 2006 NL Rookie of the Year Award. During that historic rookie campaign, he became just the fifth player since 1900 to record at least 45 doubles and 50 stolen bases in a single season.
A mid-season trade in 2012 sent Ramírez to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He enjoyed a spectacular 2013 campaign, carrying the Dodgers into the postseason by batting .345 with 20 home runs in just 86 games.
Ramírez returned to his original organization in 2015, signing a prominent free-agent contract with the Boston Red Sox. He adapted to multiple new roles in Boston, shifting from left field to first base and designated hitter.
He concluded his Major League journey with brief appearances for the Red Sox in 2018 and the Cleveland Indians in 2019.
