Andrew “Andy” Pettitte is a former American professional baseball pitcher who played 18 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He is best known for his time with the New York Yankees, where he was a key member of the “Core Four” players who led the team to multiple World Series championships in the late 1990s and 2000s.
A left-handed pitcher, Pettitte was known for his durability, consistent performance, and ability to pitch effectively in high-pressure situations. His pitching repertoire included a four-seam fastball, a cutter, a slider, a curveball, a sinker, and a changeup. The cutter was often considered his go-to pitch, used to induce a lot of ground balls and double plays.
Pettitte won five World Series titles with the Yankees (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009). He was selected to the MLB All-Star Game three times (1996, 2001, and 2010). He holds several franchise records for the New York Yankees.
His jersey number, 46, was retired by the New York Yankees in 2015, and he was honored with a plaque in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium.
