Jorge Posada is a former professional baseball catcher who spent his entire 17-season Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the New York Yankees. A key member of the Yankees’ dynasty in the late 1990s and 2000s.
Posada is famously known as one of the “Core Four” players, alongside Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte, who came up through the Yankees’ farm system together and became the foundation of the team that won four World Series titles in five years (1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009).
Posada was selected to the MLB All-Star Game five times (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2007). He is a five-time Silver Slugger Award Winner, recognized as the best offensive catcher in the American League on five occasions. He was a member of five World Series championship teams with the Yankees.
The Yankees retired his jersey number, 20, in 2015, and he was honored with a plaque in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium, cementing his legacy as a Yankees legend.
After his retirement, Posada has remained involved with the Yankees and is a beloved figure among the team’s fans. He is also known for his philanthropic work with the Jorge Posada Foundation, which raises awareness and funds for research into craniosynostosis, a birth defect that his son was born with.
