Wilson was a first-round pick (7th overall) by the Cincinnati Reds in 1990 out of the University of Minnesota. After a brief stint in Cincinnati, he was traded to the Mariners in 1994, where he spent the next 12 seasons.

Wilson’s true value was his glove. At the time of his retirement in 2005, he held the American League record for the highest career fielding percentage by a catcher at .995.
He was the primary catcher for Hall of Famer Randy Johnson during the Big Unit’s peak years in Seattle. The duo started 104 games together, pitching to a staggering 75–29 record.
Dan Wilson is one of the few catchers in modern history to hit two inside-the-park home runs during his career.
Wilson never really left the game. After retiring, he spent years as a broadcaster and minor league catching coordinator.
