Did You Know? What truly cemented Chipper’s place in modern baseball folklore was his intense, high-energy relationship with New York Mets fans. Throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, the Braves and Mets engaged in brutal NL East pennant races, and Chipper consistently acted as New York’s primary tormentor.

He hit so remarkably well at Shea Stadium that he ultimately named his second son “Shea” as a direct, playful homage to the ballpark he routinely demolished.
