Corey Patterson entered the league with immense hype as a true five-tool centerfielder. Selected 3rd overall in the 1998 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs, his blend of elite raw power and blazing speed regular landed him atop Baseball America’s prospect rankings.

While his blistering start to 2003 was cut short by a devastating ACL tear, Patterson still turned in an impressive 24-home run, 32-stolen base season for the Cubs in 2004. He later re-established his elite speed with the Baltimore Orioles, swiping a career-high 45 bases in 2006. Over a 12-year major league career, he became a member of the 100-HR/200-SB club.

Peak Performance Snapshot

  • The 2004 Power/Speed Peak: In his healthiest and most productive season with the Cubs, Patterson posted a career-high .771 OPS, scoring 91 runs, roping 33 doubles, and blasting 24 home runs while successfully stealing 32 bags.
  • The 2006 Baltimore Renaissance: Traded to the Orioles before the 2006 season, Patterson showed off his range in center field and finished 3rd in the American League with 45 stolen bases, alongside 16 home runs and 75 runs scored.
