Jim Thome is a legendary American baseball player, a prolific power hitter and a fan favorite known for his big home runs and even bigger heart. His career spanned 22 seasons, during which he established himself as one of the game’s premier sluggers.
Thome is a member of the exclusive 600-home run club with 612 career home runs. Thome was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018 in his first year of eligibility, receiving an impressive 89.8% of the vote.
He played for six different teams throughout his career, but is most closely associated with the Cleveland Indians, where he spent the first 12 seasons of his career and had a second stint in 2011. He was a key part of the dominant Cleveland teams of the 1990s that made two World Series appearances. He also had notable stints with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, and Minnesota Twins.
Thome was a five-time All-Star, won a Silver Slugger Award in 1996, and was named the American League Comeback Player of the Year in 2006.
Beyond his on-field performance, Thome was widely respected for his sportsmanship, integrity, and community involvement. He was the recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award in 2002 and a two-time winner of the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award.
