Bret Boone is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) second baseman known for his excellent defense and power-hitting. He is also a member of one of baseball’s most notable families, being the son of former player and manager Bob Boone, the grandson of former player Ray Boone.
Boone was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1990 and made his MLB debut with the team in 1992, becoming the first-ever third-generation MLB player. He played for several teams during his 14-year career, including the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, and Minnesota Twins, but he is most remembered for his two stints with the Mariners.
Boone’s career was marked by a combination of offensive and defensive prowess. His awards include being a 3-time All-Star (1998, 2001, 2003), 4-time Gold Glove Award winner (1998, 2002-2004) and 2-time Silver Slugger Award winner (2001, 2003).
