Did You Know? While Salmon earned a brief cup of coffee in late 1992, his absolute breakout arrived during a spectacular 1993 regular season campaign. Under the immense pressure of stabilizing a transitioning Angels lineup, the 24-year-old outfielder handled major league pitching like a seasoned veteran.
He put on an absolute offensive masterclass, batting a stellar .283 while smashing 31 home runs, 35 doubles, and driving in 95 runs. Displays of elite patience saw him draw 83 walks, helping him record a brilliant .382 on-base percentage and a .536 slugging percentage. His overwhelming production earned him the 1993 American League Rookie of the Year Award by a unanimous vote, instantly establishing him alongside postseason hero Garret Anderson and Jim Edmonds in a dynamic, young outfield core.
