George Clyde Kell was a true hitting machine and a defensive stalwart at third base, earning him a place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. His career spanned 15 seasons (1943-1957) across several American League teams. He was a 10-time All-Star (1947-1954, 1956, 1957). George Kell was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983 by the Veterans Committee.
This 1948 Leaf #120 is often considered his most significant and primary rookie card. It’s part of the groundbreaking 1948 Leaf set, known for being the first widely distributed post-war set to feature color images. The #120 card is also a short print (SP) within the set, making it scarcer and more valuable, especially in higher grades where centering and print quality are often issues.
