Brooks Robinson was an American professional baseball player who spent his entire 23-year career, from 1955 to 1977, as a third baseman for the Baltimore Orioles. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest defensive third basemen in baseball history.
He was a key part of the Orioles teams that won two World Series championships in 1966 and 1970, and appeared in four total World Series. He was an 18-time All-Star, won 16 consecutive Gold Glove Awards for his defensive prowess, and was named the American League MVP in 1964. His exceptional defensive performance in the 1970 World Series earned him the World Series MVP award and the nickname “The Human Vacuum Cleaner.”
He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983 on his first year of eligibility. His number 5 was retired by the Baltimore Orioles in 1978.
After his playing career, he served as a television broadcaster for the Orioles and co-owned a group of minor league teams. He also served on the Board of Directors for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and as President of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
