Stanley Frank “Stan the Man” Musial was one of the most beloved and consistently excellent players in baseball history, spending his entire illustrious 22-season Major League Baseball career (1941-1944, 1946-1963) with the St. Louis Cardinals. Known for his unique corkscrew batting stance, incredible hitting prowess, and universally admired sportsmanship, Musial is often cited as one of the greatest pure hitters the game has ever seen. Musial was a cornerstone of the Cardinals teams that won three World Series championships (1942, 1944, 1946).
Stan Musial retired in 1963 and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969 in his first year of eligibility. His uniform number 6 was retired by the St. Louis Cardinals, and a statue of him stands proudly outside Busch Stadium. He was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011 by President Barack Obama, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
This 1948 Leaf baseball card is one of two recognized rookie cards for Stan Musial. This Leaf card features Musial in batting stance and is printed in color opposed to his other Bowman black and white rookie. The 1948 Leaf set is known to have issues with print lines and centering. Finding this card in high grade is tough.

Did You Know? Musial won three National League MVP Awards (1943, 1946, and 1948), but his 1948 campaign is widely considered one of the greatest individual offensive seasons in baseball history.
He put together a jaw-dropping offensive masterpiece, batting .376 with 230 hits, 46 doubles, 18 triples, 39 home runs, and 131 RBIs. He led the National League in almost every major offensive category, falling just one home run shy of winning the National League Triple Crown (his 39 homers fell one short of Johnny Mize and Ralph Kiner, who tied with 40).
