Donald “Don” Ray Mincher was a left-handed power hitter who played first base and outfield in Major League Baseball for 13 seasons (1960-1972). Known for his strong bat, he was a consistent home run threat and a respected veteran on several teams.

Mincher began his career with the “original” Washington Senators in 1960. He was part of the team’s move to Minnesota in 1961, becoming a member of the inaugural Minnesota Twins. He became a reliable slugger for the Twins, hitting 22 home runs in 1963 and 22 again in 1965, contributing to the Twins’ American League pennant win that year. He was traded to the California Angels, where he continued to display his power. In 1967, he had a career-best 25 home runs and was selected to his first All-Star team. He reached the 200 home run milestone during his final season in 1972.

After his playing career, Don Mincher had a long and impactful career as a minor league executive, particularly in his hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, where he was involved with the Huntsville Stars, a Double-A affiliate.

Don Mincher’s most commonly recognized rookie card is this 1960 Topps #548.
