Juan Antonio Marichal Sánchez, nicknamed “the Dominican Dandy,” is a Dominican former right-handed pitcher who was one of the dominant pitchers in Major League Baseball (MLB) during the 1960s. He played 16 seasons in the MLB (1960–1975), primarily with the San Francisco Giants. He was the first player born in the Dominican Republic to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
Marichal was renowned for his distinctive pitching delivery, which featured a high leg kick that made him deceptive, enabling him to hide the ball longer. His repertoire included a fastball, a sharp curve, a deceptive screwball, and he used a variety of arm angles, from straight overhand to sidearm, along with pinpoint control, making him one of the most complete and feared pitchers of his era.
He was a 10-time All-Star (1962–1969, 1971), earning the 1965 All-Star Game MVP award.
