Originally drafted by the California Angels in 1968 out of the University of Maryland, Bradley was traded to the Chicago White Sox prior to the 1971 season. It was in Chicago where his career instantly skyrocketed under the tutelage of legendary pitching coach Johnny Sain.

The 1971 Workhorse Campaign: Bradley became an immediate anchor in the South Side rotation. He took the mound for 39 starts (3rd highest in the AL), tossing a massive 285.2 innings. He finished with a balanced 15–15 record but posted an outstanding 2.96 ERA and struck out 206 batters. Remarkably, he spun 6 individual shutouts that season.

The 1972 Encore: Proving his debut year was no fluke, Bradley backbacked his workload in 1972. He made 40 starts, threw 260.0 innings, and racked up another 15 wins with a pristine 2.98 ERA and 209 strikeouts, helping the White Sox contend in the AL West.

Hoping to cash in on his peak trade value, the White Sox traded Bradley to the San Francisco Giants after the 1972 season in a blockbuster deal for Ken Henderson and future Cy Young winner Steve Stone.

Bradley gave the Giants one excellent year in 1973, throwing 224.0 innings and winning 13 games. However, the massive workloads from his Chicago years quickly caught up to his shoulder.

Following his playing career, Bradley built a highly successful second legacy as a collegiate head coach, leading Jacksonville University from 1979 to 1990 and later returning to his alma mater to coach the Maryland Terrapins through the 1990s.
