Willie Larry Randolph is a highly respected figure in baseball, known for his distinguished playing career as a second baseman, particularly with the New York Yankees, and his extensive work as a coach and manager.

Randolph played for six different MLB teams during his 18-year career (1975–1992): the Pittsburgh Pirates (1975), New York Yankees (1976–1988), Los Angeles Dodgers (1989–1990), Oakland Athletics (1990), Milwaukee Brewers (1991), and New York Mets (1992).

He is most fondly remembered for his 13 seasons with the New York Yankees, where he was a cornerstone of their infield. He was a key player on the Yankees teams that won back-to-back World Series titles in 1977 and 1978. From 1986 to 1988, he served as co-captain of the Yankees alongside pitching legend Ron Guidry. In recognition of his contributions, the Yankees honored him with a plaque in Monument Park in 2015. He was a six-time All-Star, representing both the American League (1976, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1987) and the National League (1989). In 1980, he won a Silver Slugger Award as the best offensive second baseman in the American League.

After retiring as a player, Randolph transitioned into coaching and management. He served as a coach for the New York Yankees for 11 seasons (1994–2004), contributing to four more World Series championships (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000). He also coached for the Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles. Randolph was the manager of the New York Mets from 2005 to 2008, leading them to an NL East title in 2006. He was the first African-American manager in New York Mets history. He also managed Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

He has also worked as a post-season baseball analyst for ESPN.

Willie Randolph’s widely recognized rookie card is this 1976 Topps #592 Rookie Infielders card. Like many rookie cards of that era, it’s a “multi-player” card, featuring Randolph alongside other rookie infielders: Dave McKay, Jerry Royster, and Roy Staiger.
