Drafted 8th overall in the 1985 MLB Draft by the Montreal Expos out of Oklahoma State University, Peter Joseph “Pete” Incaviglia was one of the most feared power hitters in college baseball history and a defining slugger of the Late-1980s and 1990s.
Refusing to sign with Montreal, Incaviglia was traded to the Texas Rangers before making his professional debut, bypassing the minor leagues entirely to step straight into Texas’ starting lineup in 1986. Over a 12-season Major League career (1986–1998) with the Rangers, Tigers, Astros, Phillies, Orioles, and Yankees, “Inky” launched 206 home runs, establishing a reputation as a free-swinging, high-ceiling power threat.
Incaviglia’s staggering collegiate numbers remain legendary, setting records that may never be matched.
NCAA All-Time Power Records: At Oklahoma State in 1985, Incaviglia delivered the greatest single season in college baseball history, shattering records with 48 home runs and 143 RBIs in just 75 games. He remains the NCAA single-season and career (100) home run leader.
1986 Rookie Power Surge: Made his big-league debut directly with the Texas Rangers in 1986, launching 30 home runs and driving in 88 runs as a 21-year-old rookie, finishing 5th in AL Rookie of the Year voting.
1993 Phillies “Macho Row” World Series Run: Served as a crucial middle-of-the-order slugger for the famous 1993 National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies, bashing 24 home runs and driving in 89 RBIs in just 116 games.
