Selected in the 34th round of the 1986 MLB Draft out of Luella High School (GA) by the Houston Astros, Eric Terrance Anthony was a towering, physical left-handed outfielder who possessed some of the most prodigious, light-tower raw power of the late 1980s and 1990s.
Famous for launching legendary long-distance home runs into the upper decks of the Astrodome and Veterans Stadium, Anthony spent nine seasons in the Major Leagues (1989–1997) across stints with the Astros, Mariners, Reds, Rockies, and Dodgers, mashing 137 career home runs.
Anthony quickly generated national buzz in Houston’s system as an upper-deck threat who could clear any ballpark in baseball.
1989 Minor League Power Display: Smashed 28 home runs and drove in 89 RBIs in just 101 games at Double-A Columbus in 1989, earning a September call-up to Houston at age 21.
1992 Peak Campaign: Delivered his finest season with the Astros in 1992, starting 130 games in right field while hitting 19 home runs, 20 doubles, and driving in 80 RBIs.
1993 Career-High Power: Smashed a career-high 19 home runs in just 316 at-bats for Houston in 1993, posting a .430 slugging percentage despite battling injuries and high strikeout numbers.
Coors Field & Veterans Stadium Impact: Launched 11 home runs in 47 games for the Colorado Rockies in 1996, and later served as a primary power weapon off the bench for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
