Known for his speed, he was a switch-hitter who played for several teams during his career, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, and St. Louis Cardinals.
Cedeño’s career was marked by his exceptional speed on the basepaths. His most notable season came in 1999 with the New York Mets, where he set a franchise record (since broken by José Reyes) by stealing 66 bases.
Cedeño was involved in a number of notable trades, including a deal that sent him from the Mets to the Astros for Mike Hampton in 1999.
After retiring from playing, Cedeño has been involved in coaching. He has served as a minor league hitting coach for organizations like the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros. In 2016, he founded the Roger Cedeño Foundation, a charitable organization that supports youth programs in both the U.S. and Venezuela.
