Ben Sheets is a former American professional baseball pitcher who played primarily for the Milwaukee Brewers over his 10-season MLB career (2001–2008, 2010, 2012).

He was selected as an MLB All-Star four times in the National League (2001, 2004, 2007, and 2008). In 2008, he became the first Brewers pitcher to start an All-Star Game.

Sheets was a member of the United States national team that won the gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout against Cuba in the gold medal game.

His career was marked by recurring injuries, including trouble with a bulging disc in his lower back in 2003, and later arm and shoulder issues. He missed the entire 2009 season following elbow surgery and his career was ultimately limited by injuries, leading to his retirement after the 2012 season.

Did You Know?  Long before he became a household name in the National League, Sheets authored one of the most legendary international performances in American baseball history. At just 22 years old, he was selected to headline Tommy Lasorda’s Team USA roster at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

In the gold medal game against a heavily favored, powerhouse Cuban national team, Sheets delivered an absolute masterpiece. He pitched a three-hit, complete-game shutout, striking out five batters without walking a single soul to secure a historic 1-0 victory and the Olympic Gold Medal for the United States. The legendary performance instantly elevated his profile from a high-upside prospect to an untouchable, ice-cold big-game artist before his major league rookie debut.
