José Alberto Pujols Alcántara—eternally revered as “The Machine”—stands as one of the most terrifyingly dominant right-handed hitters in the history of Major League Baseball.

Selected by the Cardinals in the 13th round of the 1999 draft out of Maple Woods Community College, Pujols shocked the baseball world by forcing his way onto the 2001 Opening Day roster. What followed was a historic, unprecedented 10-year launch pad.
Across his first 10 seasons, Pujols batted a combined .331 while averaging 41 home runs, 42 doubles, and 118 RBIs per year.
He is the only player in MLB history to open a career with 10 consecutive seasons of a .300+ batting average, 30+ home runs, and 100+ RBIs.
During this stretch, he captured the 2001 NL Rookie of the Year award, a batting title, and three NL MVP awards (2005, 2008, 2009), finishing as the runner-up an additional four times. He anchored two pennant-winning clubs and a 2006 World Series Championship.

Did You Know? After a decade spent with the Los Angeles Angels and a brief stint with the Dodgers, Pujols returned to St. Louis for a farewell tour in 2022 that quickly evolved from a nostalgic victory lap into a historic chase.
Needing 21 home runs to enter the mythical 700-Home Run Club, the 42-year-old Pujols caught fire in the second half of the season. On September 23, 2022, at Dodger Stadium, he launched two home runs in a single night to hit career home runs #699 and #700, triggering a nationwide celebration and joining Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, and Babe Ruth as the only members of baseball’s most exclusive power club.
