Drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 1968, Foster’s career truly ignited after a 1971 trade brought him to the Cincinnati Reds. By 1975, manager Sparky Anderson moved Pete Rose to third base, inserting Foster into everyday left field duties—locking in the final, devastating piece of the Big Red Machine.
- Back-to-Back Titles (1975–1976): Foster anchored the middle of the order alongside Johnny Bench, Tony Pérez, and Joe Morgan, securing consecutive World Series championships. He hit an outstanding .306 with a major league-leading 121 RBIs in 1976.
- The Mythic 1977 MVP Season: Foster put together an all-time historic season, exploding for 52 home runs and 149 RBIs while batting .320. In an era where 50-home-run seasons had completely vanished, Foster was the only player to hit the mark between Willie Mays in 1965 and Cecil Fielder in 1990.
- Sustained Dominance: He followed his MVP year by pacing the National League again in 1978 with 40 homers and 120 RBIs, capturing his third consecutive RBI crown.
Later in his career, Foster signed a landmark contract with the New York Mets (1982–1986), providing veteran power during their rise to prominence, before briefly concluding his 18-year career with the Chicago White Sox in 1986.
George Foster shares this Giants “Rookie Stars” card with fellow team mate Mike Davison.
