Selected in the 1st round (4th overall pick) of the 1985 MLB Secondary Draft out of Northeast Louisiana University by the California Angels, Charles Edward “Chuck” Finley was one of the premier left-handed starting pitchers of the late 1980s and 1990s.
Armed with a blistering fastball and a devastating, late-dropping split-finger fastball, Finley spent 17 seasons in the Major Leagues (1986–2002) with the Angels, Indians, and Cardinals. He amassed 200 career victories, earned 5 All-Star selections, and remains the all-time leader in wins and strikeouts in Angels franchise history.
Finley jumped straight from the minors to Anaheim’s bullpen during the Angels’ 1986 AL West championship season before blossoming into a workhorse rotation ace.
Angels Franchise Record Holder: Ranks 1st all-time in Angels history in wins (165), innings pitched (2,675.0), games started (379), and strikeouts (2,151).
5-Time All-Star: Selected to the AL All-Star squad in 1989, 1990, 1993, 1995, and 1996.
18-Win Peak Seasons: Enjoyed back-to-back dominance in 1989 (16–9, 2.57 ERA, 156 K) and 1990 (18–9, 2.40 ERA, 177 K), finishing 7th in AL Cy Young voting in 1990.
