Signed as an amateur free agent by the Cleveland Indians in 1946, left-handed pitcher Albert “Al” Aber was a dependable relief weapon and spot starter throughout the 1950s.

Best known for his multi-inning work out of the Detroit Tigers’ bullpen, Aber compiled a 24–25 career record with a 4.17 ERA over parts of five Major League seasons (1950, 1953–1957) with the Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, and Kansas City Athletics.

After serving in the United States Army during World War II and spending several years in the minor leagues, Aber earned his way back to the majors with Detroit.

1955 Career Year: Aber turned in his best big-league campaign in 1955 for the Tigers, appearing in 39 games and going 6–3 with a 3.39 ERA and 3 saves over 82.1 innings.

Statistical Feat (1955): On June 28, 1955, Aber earned the win in both games of a doubleheader sweep against the Chicago White Sox, pitching a total of 5.1 scoreless innings of relief across the two contests.

Military Service & Minor League Dominance: Won 19 games for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians in 1953 before returning to the big leagues for good.
