James William “Jim” Gilliam, often nicknamed “Junior,” was a versatile and underrated infielder and outfielder who played his entire 14-year Major League Baseball career (1953-1966) with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. Gilliam was a vital part of the Dodgers teams that reached seven World Series and won four championships (1955, 1959, 1963, 1965). He was selected to the National League All-Star team twice (1956, 1959).
Jim Gilliam’s most widely recognized and collected rookie card is this 1953 Topps #258. This card is part of the highly popular and artistically acclaimed 1953 Topps set. It features a beautiful hand-painted portrait of Gilliam. As a high-number card, it is generally scarcer than cards from the lower series, adding to its desirability.
