Originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 1967, Dick Tidrow proved his durability immediately upon reaching the big leagues.

Tidrow burst onto the scene by throwing 237.2 innings across 39 appearances (31 starts) for Cleveland in 1972, pitching his way to a 14–15 record with a 3.42 ERA and finished 4th in AL Rookie of the Year voting.

Traded to the New York Yankees in 1974 in a blockbuster deal that also brought Chris Chambliss to New York, Tidrow transitioned smoothly into the bullpen. He became a vital weapon for Billy Martin‘s late-70s squads, pitching heavily in relief to help the Yankees capture back-to-back World Series Championships in 1977 and 1978. After a stint with the Cubs, Tidrow had an exceptional 1980 season out of the North Side bullpen. He appeared in 69 games, tossing 113.1 innings of relief, securing a 5–5 record with 5 saves and a sharp 2.78 ERA.

He finished his playing career in 1984 with the New York Mets, leaving behind a legacy of 100 wins, 55 saves, and 1,843.1 highly competitive innings pitched.

Dick Tidrow shares this multi-player “1972 Rookie Stars” card with fellow Indians teammates Terry Ley and Jim Moyer.
