Tim Wallach, often nicknamed “Eli,” was a premier third baseman who anchored the Montreal Expos for over a decade. His 17-season career (1980–1996) was defined by both defensive excellence and a powerful offensive presence.
- 5-time All-Star: (1984, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1990)
- 3-time Gold Glove Winner: (1985, 1988, 1990)
- 2-time Silver Slugger: (1985, 1987)
- Golden Spikes Award (1979): Recognized as the top amateur baseball player in the U.S. while at Cal State Fullerton.
After being drafted 10th overall in 1979, Wallach famously hit a home run in his first official MLB at-bat. He became the face of the franchise at third base, peaking in 1987 when he led the National League with 42 doubles, drove in 123 runs (a franchise record that stood for years), and finished fourth in MVP voting.
In later years (1993–1996), Wallach spent several seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he won the NL Comeback Player of the Year award in 1994 after hitting .280 with 23 home runs. He finished his playing days with a brief stint with the California Angels before retiring back with the Dodgers.
Following his retirement, Wallach transitioned into a highly successful coaching career, serving as a bench coach and third-base coach for the Dodgers and the Miami Marlins. He was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
