Ron Gant was a professional baseball player who had a 16-season career in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1987 to 2003. He was known for his combination of power and speed, as well as his time with the Atlanta Braves during their rise to prominence in the 1990s.
During his time with the Braves, he became a central figure in their offense, particularly during their run of division titles in the early ’90s. His best years came in 1990 and 1991 when he became one of the few players in MLB history to achieve two consecutive 30-30 seasons, hitting at least 30 home runs and stealing at least 30 bases in both years. He was an All-Star in 1992 and won a Silver Slugger Award in 1991.
A significant setback in his career occurred after the 1993 season when he suffered a serious injury in a dirt-bike accident, causing him to miss the entire 1994 season. Despite this, he made a strong comeback in 1995 with the Cincinnati Reds, earning the National League Comeback Player of the Year Award and his second All-Star selection.
He later played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Anaheim Angels, Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, and San Diego Padres.
After his playing career, Gant transitioned into broadcasting, serving as a color commentator for Braves games on television networks.
