Brien Taylor is a former minor league baseball pitcher who was born on December 26, 1971. A left-handed pitcher with a fastball that reached 98-99 mph, he was considered an elite prospect out of high school. In 1991, he was selected first overall by the New York Yankees in the Major League Baseball Draft.
After two successful seasons in the minor leagues, he was injured in a fistfight in December 1993, falling on his pitching shoulder. The injury, which required surgery, effectively ended his career. He lost velocity on his fastball and could no longer throw a curveball for a strike.
He attempted a comeback, but his performance declined significantly. He never played a game above Class AA and retired in 2000.
